Natural dye, Indigo Discharge and Block Printing
It was a great experience to do a class with Padmini ma'am in her studio Tharangini Bangalore. With around more there 4000 blocks it was a good experience.
Block printing as you know has a long long history in the world of printing and so does the use of natural dyes and even indigo, historically the dyes we're made from natural materials like roots, bark, flowers and seeds. The dyes used today are all actively eco-friendly.
Discharge Print:
It is a combination of Gum Arabic and Zinc, which is then fermented. Fabrics printed with this paste have to be steamed, washed and cured in the sun. Discharge prints are usually done on fabric that have been pre dyed with reactive dye.
Natural Dye Print:
This is a silk stole in which I did natural dye block printing and discharge printing on it.

This is done on thick cotton cloth for the idea I thought of Dragone flies in between as while of working on this there were many of them flying around and I wanted to give not only a traditional look but also a touch of contemporary look to it.
